Announcing the Seed Fund Recipients!

We have selected FOUR recipients for this year's Marine Science Seed Fund, thanks to our continued partnership with Medalla Light which has allowed us to support three additional students. Let's meet the four recipients!


IVANIS SANCHEZ

University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez
Dept. of Biology | Masters Student


Ivanis will be studying the temperature of leatherback sea turtle nests in her project titled "Determining the impact of temperature on the success of the Leatherback Sea Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) nests in Arecibo, Puerto Rico".



DANIEL TOLEDO

University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez
Dept. of Marine Sciences | Masters Student


Daniel will be investigating the diversity of marine tunicates in his project titled "Exploring the genetic diversity of coral reef tunicates (Class: Ascidiacea), southwest Puerto Rico".




OMAR ZAYAS

University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez
Dept. of Marine Sciences | Masters Student


Omar will be focusing on the genetic relationship of the common octopus populations in his project titled "Population Connectivity of the Common Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) in Puerto Rico".



NANUSHKA BONANO

Interamerican University, Metro Campus
Dept. of Natural & Technological Sciences | Masters Student


Nanushka will be characterizing the bacterial communities of bio bays in her project titled "Analysis of spatial microbial dynamics at the bioluminescent bays in Fajardo and Vieques, Puerto Rico".
