youth education

Our youth program trains the next generation of young scientists ages 5 to 17 in ocean-themed,

hands-on education.

Our scientists-in-training will engage with active marine and terrestrial scientists, learn from leaders in the field, and interact in a group setting. All of our programs are bilingual. We have small class sizes that allow for personalized attention.

Ocean Classes

Our offerings are constantly evolving and growing as we expand our services to include a variety of age ranges. New to our programs? Click the button below for answers to the most asked questions.

Six-Week Course

Our courses feature 6-week blocks with weekly sessions customized for different age groups (7-9 yrs old; 10-12 yrs old), centered on specific ocean themes. Each two-hour class involves hands-on, creative explorations of topics such as coral reefs, food webs, island biogeography, and ocean history. Classes will be held in Isla Mar's tropical classroom, complemented by ocean field trips.

Monthly Weekend Class

Our weekend classes cater to children aged 5-7, featuring a different ocean topic each session. Emphasizing play, creativity, and hands-on learning, we delve into ocean zones, sea turtles, the food web, fish, sharks, marine invertebrates, marine mammals, and more!

Junior Naturalist

Our Junior Naturalist program, for ages 13-17, fosters observational skills through writing and sketching during field trips to diverse west coast ecosystems. This three-month program consists of six Saturday sessions, held twice monthly.
