About the Course

Get to know – and promote–  plants of high ecological impact

Conoce y promueve plantas de alto impacto ecológico


We invite the public to join us in a workshop to learn about native plant species of high ecological importance in Puerto Rico. Participants will learn about plant characteristics that promote strong symbiotic (mutually-beneficial) relationships with wildlife such as birds and pollinators. The activity will include an interactive presentation by Tomás A. Carlo Joglar, professor of ecology at Penn State University, followed by a guided interpretative walk to observe and identify ecologically important plant and bird species and their functions. Nursery trays and gardening materials for caring and planting of high ecological importance will be distributed among participants. Interested individuals and families will have the option of participating in a follow-up urban ecology program aimed at propagating the distributed seeds and planting in appropriate available spaces.
